Good morning everyone. My name is Ryan Kill A and I'm in admissions counselor here at William Peace University. I know we have some people still logging into this event. Uhm, so before we get started will probably give everyone a couple more minutes to join. Um, I hope I'm coming in loud and clear. And thank you for joining this morning. So just giving everyone a few more.
But another minute or so and will get will get this event started.

10:01:12 AM
Hello my name is Virginia Shorts
Alright, well as I said before, my name is Ryan Kelly and I'd like to welcome you to a virtual piece preview. Uhm, I'm really like to thank everyone for coming today and and taking the time this morning to experience and to talk to some admissions counselors to talk to some students and hear from our president and director of immersive learning.
I'm gonna give you the rundown of how today is going to go, um, So what we're going to start with is we have a video from doctor Brian Ralph, the president of William Peace University, and we also have a video of doctor Chris born who is the director of immersive learning at William Peace University.
After that I'm going to give an admissions presentation and then following that will have a student panel with three members of our student bassador's that you'll be able to talk to interact with an hopefully ask some questions for one of the things I'd like to say about the video. If you're joining us live, you will have to select on the video and play it yourself when we go to that screen, I will blank my screen while while that video is playing after that.
Margaret Vaughn
10:02:22 AM
Hi Virginia! Welcome!
As when I finish I will turn my screen back on so you'll be able to see Maine. If you do, step away. If you do, step away from the computer during this time. That's more than fine. Will switch over. We will be sending the links out for these videos after after the event, so if you do want to go back and re watch it, you're more than welcome to do that. If you're watching the on-demand broadcast and we hope and we hope you are able to. If you want to.
Um, the links will be included as well, so you won't be able to hear the links, and you'll have to go back and watch them during this time. Uh, so without further ado, I'm going to kick it over to doctor Brian Ralph.
Ryan Killilea
10:03:44 AM

OK, thank you very much. Doctor Ralph.
Um, now I'm moving on to Chris Barnes video. Um, who's our director of immersive learning? So if you'd like to play that video, thank you very much.

Ryan Killilea
10:13:54 AM
I will be moving on to the presentation now!
Krystie Webb
10:14:01 AM
Oh okay, thank you
I'd really like to thank a doctor, Ralph and doctor born for taking the time to help us out with their with their videos. Uhm, I know some of you joined us late and might not have been able to hear Doctor Ralph or doctor born speak. Not a problem at all. After this event we will be sending emails to everyone with the links regarding listening to Maine with the links to listen to those videos and to hear from Doctor Ralph and doctor born.
About some of the great parts of William Peace University. Um, for those of you that are joined late, I'll reintroduce myself. My name is Ryan Kelly Anne. I'm into missions counselor here at William Peace University and I do want to thank everyone that is joining us this morning. Um, as Doctor Ralph said, this is not the. This is not the way we wanted to meet you for the first time. We really do want you to come on campus and hopefully at the end of everything you can. Common experience, William Peace University and see all the great things that we have to offer.
I'm going to give the admissions presentation right now an I always we always start off with why William Peace University and I'm not going to hit too much into the location and immersive learning. 'cause I think Doctor Ralph and doctor born really talked about it more in depth and they explain it so well. I will just add that all of our students really really take heart to it. They really enjoy getting out into their majors, whether they're one of the student bachelors that'll be on later he.
Early earlier in the year he told me about working on a commercial in downtown Raleigh. Uhm, and he's a musical theater major, so it was really perfect combination of getting out into his major, using rally to his benefit and and using his major. And so it really was a great benefit that we have to offer. Moving on 100% of our students complete an internship while at William Peace University and this is great. As Doctor Ralph talked about and doctor born, you know.
It's a way for you to learn what you love to do. It might be a way for you to learn. Hey, this might not be best for me, but I love this company so I really wanna work at this company we've had. We've had students that have had that happen as well, and one of the great parts is you can start an internship from the time you come to the first moment you're on. William Peace University. I worked with two freshmen first semester this fall and they worked with us in the sports information Department. So it's really great for them to get experience.
In there in what they're looking to do upon graduation and as doctor Ralph mentioned, there is a 98% job placement or Graduate School rate that really lends itself from people getting out into their major and developing relations and just experience another great thing we have to offer is a 13 one student faculty ratio. You're really going to be able to connect with your professors really be able to talk with them, get to know them, and they'll get to know you. You're not just a number.
Margaret Vaughn
10:17:19 AM
Please feel free to post any questions in the chat box! We're happy to answer them for you.
You are really a name Doctor Bonner, the head of our biology Department. She says she told me that when she writes a letter of recommendation for going to vet school, Med school, dental school, or anything else like that, um, she's going to write a three page letter of recommendation about you. It's going to talk about, you know your dogs or cats if you got snakes, something like that. All the strength that you have and what you really improved ippon in your time at William peace, because that's how well they get to know you.
We also have 27 majors to choose from. Um, we also have some emphasis in some of our major, so if you're looking for Sports Management, we do have that. It's part of our business administration major. If you're looking for graphic design, it's part of our communications major, and if you're not exactly sure what you want to study, we've got advisors to help you do that. We've got peer mentors that help you do that, and then all of our professors would love to convince you to study in their major as well. Going back to Doctor Bonner, I'm not a science person at.
All and she made me want to be a biology major after one hour. So if you don't want to be biology major, stay away from Doctor Bonner. 'cause that might happen. We also have over 30 clubs and organizations an like with a lot of things. If we don't have the club you're looking for, let us know we can help you. Start it. And finally, 18 Division Three athletic teams that compete in the USA South Athletic Conference. If you are interested in athletics as Jesse, go to gopeespacers.com.
That's our athletic website and will be listed at the end of this presentation. Reach out to the coach of the team that you're interested in playing for, you know. Send him an email. Also fill out a recruit form. It's a great way to connect with them. They really check on that an if that doesn't work, contact me and I would be glad to help you out.

10:19:13 AM
Do you know when the orientation will be for new students entering in the fall?
Moving on to the admissions process, we are a rolling admissions University, so we opened it last August and it will close down this August. I will say if you are looking to start up for fall 2020, get your application done now we have some. We had one soon who is admitted last August. Uhm, there is a very hectic process but we were able to do it, but I would advise you all to get it done a little bit little bit sooner than that. Your parents will be your parents and your family.
Virginia Shorts
10:19:40 AM
Do you have majors that involves Sports Medicine?
Krystie Webb
10:20:02 AM
Are we assigned someone to speak with about our major when we begin school?
Will be happy about that, um, so you apply online at admissions.peace.edu/apply we take test scores, transcripts an if you're a transfer or if you're dual enrolled. We we take all of your college transcripts now. Obviously the test scores of something that's coming up a little bit more now, especially with all of the with all of the different cancellations that have gone on because of the coronavirus.
Um, we are working with students, so if you took the AC TS uh a year ago as a junior uhm and you weren't exactly happy with his score, talk with us about it. Reach out to your counselor. Let us know if you were planning on retaking it and weren't able to do that because of it. Once again, reach out. Let us know because we do realize that every student is different and we do go with a holistic approach on in our admissions process. So we want to know about you.
We want us to tell us your story. Uhm, you know, there's a spot for personal statement. Tell us about you. Tell us about your dogs. Your cats tell us what makes you unique. Um, tell us maybe why you didn't do as well as you. You hope to do in the AC T you know what? 4 hours? What happens for four hours on a Saturday or 4 hours during the school day should not change what happened for four years of your life in high school. So that's really what we want to know. And also get letters of recommendation.
Uh, the best thing we can do is see what other teachers think of you. What your advice, what your counselor thinks of you, what someone you did. Community service with. Thinks of you that really helps us see into you because we do want to judge You as a human and not a number. The worst thing we get is when it's a blank application with just numbers and we have to go out that we really want to know about you and finally you will get a decision within two weeks. Most of time appan submission of your application.
An us receiving the correct documents. It's much faster than that.
Moving on to scholarships and financial aid UMD, we offer academic scholarships which are up to $16,000 a year. We also transfer scholarships are out there as well, and they get built into the academic scholarships as well.
Margaret Vaughn
10:22:09 AM
Hi Colby, we don't have orientation dates set yet, but for incoming freshmen it is typically the end of June. For transfers, orientation is usually in August.
There's also an honors program scholarship, which is an additional $1000 a year, and it goes up to $2000 a year. Um, as a senior, so it's 1000 as a freshman, $2000 a senior and one of our student ambassadors will go into the honest program a little bit more and be able to give you more insight on that. We also have leadership and service scholarships available, and these are very competitive and this goes back to the application, so if you tell us nothing about what you've done community service wise.
Colby Colgan
10:22:49 AM
Okay, thanks. I am a transfer student.
We can help you out, but if you tell us everything you've done, every organization you've been part of, uh, if you've worked with the Red Cross for four years, let us know. Tell us about it. We'd love to hear information, and that's how we can judge You on that.
We also offer need based scholarships and that comes through the Fasa. I sew a lot. Most of you have probably heard of the Fasola. It is comes through the federal government an we judge that and we work with the federal government, the state government to get you. Any need based scholarships. I will say when completing your application I would highly advise you to use your correct Social Security number on the application. It is not required but.
Bex Hyman
10:23:47 AM
Tentative orientation dates are June 19-20 and June 26-27-- we will be in contact if anything changes in the future!
It helps speed up the financial aid process. We had some students this past spring who did not put their Social Security number in the application and then it delayed the financial aid process. So please use your correct Social Security number in the application. Finally, your financial aid award includes merit and need based aid. I do want to hit this last point on this slide. The additional resources I always ask.
Who here is left handed? Um, anytime I'm giving this presentation. I know one of our ambassadors who you'll hear from in a little bit is left handed.
Hum and I say this because their scholarships out there for being left handed an they want to give these to people. They just need people to apply form and I really wish 13 years ago that someone had hit me over the head and really told me like hey apply to these because they they really are helpful. They really are useful and even if you're right handed you can apply to a left handed scholarship. I bring up this story. We had a male student received a scholarship from a sorority because not enough females applied to it.
They're out there. They want to give away. It's it's all on you.
Dana Stephens
10:24:51 AM
Hi Colby-- My name is Dana and I am the transfer counselor. Transfer orientation is usually right before classes begin in August. I will be in touch very soon with more details
So the next steps. So if you're a senior and you haven't applied yet, please apply at admissions@peace.edu/apply. If you have applied, or if you are a junior or sophomore freshman, you and you can apply right now. Connect with us at W PSU.

10:25:25 AM
Hi Tabron! We offer degrees in Exercise and Sports Science and Sport and Fitness Studies; both could be great options for you. Exercise and Sports Science is more of a science-based program whereas Sport and Fitness Studies is geared more towards someone looking for a career as a coach or personal trainer.
Got a great zemi account where you can talk with a lot of our ambassadors and a lot of our students and get a good good feel of William piece from the student perspective. We also have a great Instagram account and a great YouTube account with lots of other information that might be helpful if you're interested in athletics. All of our games are broadcast on YouTube. Obviously we're not having any games right now, but you can go back and watch the previous game I know our whims across team played southern Virginia three weeks ago.
Finally, national decision date is made first. Uh however, that's just our national guidelines. Most universities and colleges have pushed that back as, so we're not rushing any students. During this time. We have done the same. Our national decision date is has been pushed back just like the rest of the colleges.

So with questions, obviously you can keep, um, adding questions to our chat on the side, or you can send any questions to admissions@peace.edu or schedule an appointment with your counselor and this will be under the admissions page on William on William pieces website, so you can schedule appointment. There will be a map that I will show after our student panel that can kind of show you who your admissions counselor is. It is also on our William peace.
Admissions page an you can figure out who your counselor is and it also should say under one of the emails who who your representative is and who you can talk with. So thank you very much. I'm going to welcome our student ambassadors to the screen right now so if they want to log on.

10:26:57 AM
Hi Krystie! Absolutely! You will be assigned an Academic Advisor. Their job is to help you navigate your degree path by assisting you in picking a major, scheduling your classes, and much more.
Michael, how are you doing?
Ashlynn Charles
10:27:16 AM
Since all of the campus activities have pretty much been cancelled for the rest of the semester, is there possibly any video of theatre performances? (I will be a musical theatre major)
Well, I'd like to start this student panel off with, uh, if all of you can kind of take it away and introduce yourself and kind of talk about how you got to William Peace University. Um Davis if you'd like to start first.
Krystie Webb
10:27:36 AM
okay, thank you!
Sure, of course I'm someday vius musical theater major. I got totally in peace University because I had a friend freshman year of high school that was an internship and she went to school for the BF a program. It's only one in Raleigh that has one. So I was like, why not? Let's give it a shot, so yeah.
Ryan Killilea
10:28:01 AM
Ashlynn, Davyous is a musical theatre major, so we can ask him about that!
Hey guys, I'm Shannon Um I do a couple things as well. In addition to being an admissions ambassador, I'm also a resident assistant on campus as well as SG a student body vice president. I'm also a member of the honors program as well. I found peace because one of my friends went there. Waitress sing together at the time she had graduated the year before and I was like, yeah, I want it like a big school big D1, uhm, you know? Want all of that like your typical movie college experience?
Merica Ivey ‘16
10:29:27 AM
Hi Ashlynn! Great question. If you visit our website www.peace.edu and explore our programs of study, you will find many theatre videos. Also, as Ryan suggested, feel free to ask Davyous some questions here!
And she was like no, no go just for this place. See see what happens. And then I ended up falling in love with it. I saw opportunity. I decided I'd rather kind of.
Being what we say is like, um, a big fish in a small pond instead of.
A small fish in a big pond. I don't want to get lost in the numbers an yeah just like Michael, I haven't looked back since and I'm a senior business major.
Well, thank you all. Um Davis. We actually had a question already kind of going back, uh, going back to your major musical Theatre. Um, Ashland asked, is there possible of any video or Theatre performances she's looking at being a musical theater major, but if you can also ask how your experience has been in musical Theatre.
So when it comes to music with other performances, since you know we can, we can't legally record and we don't really have any. We do have like small like things such as like a lady come showcases and things on those lines on like our Facebook page. But once you are officially in, I'm pretty sure you're on that process will put you in the Facebook page and then you can kind of see all the videos that we have.
And being a musical theater major here, I've been in every show. Basically, except one since freshman year, so they keep you busy rehearsals.
Virginia Shorts
10:31:09 AM
Also, looking into linking with the women's basketball coach. I'm currently a varsity basketball player at Camden County Georgia class of 2022.
Seem long where they go by fast and every task that I've been in so far has been strong and independent and everybody knows their parts. Overall, it's been a great experience with directors. Do a really good job of making sure everybody's on the same page as proper training to make sure that you're aware of safety concerns. Anything on those lines, and we all check in and check out to make sure that we leave everything in the space and never take it out on one another. 'cause being with the same people everyday can be exhausting, so they do that for you as well.
Krystie Webb
10:31:30 AM
What is the honors program, is it rigorous? What do you have to do?
And thank you for that info Davis. How is it been being a double major? Uhm, 'cause you didn't mention psychology as a double major and I feel like that might be a little bit difficult.
Ryan Killilea
10:31:54 AM
Tabron, I will help you connect with the coaches
So yes, being musical Theatre and a double major anything can be tough. But since I have supported people my background and have a good advisor to keep me on track for the most part, pretty much everything is just written down for me. I can see the crash into taken the offer me summer classes, or anything else I need to take. Additionally, they also provide any additional support. Let me in on any scholarships that I need to.
Ryan Killilea
10:32:08 AM
and Krystie I will ask that of Shannon! Thanks!
Probably fill out to get additional credits. Things on those lines, so overall very supportive environment of my desire to have a double major in.
Pretty good actually. Like I'm satisfied.
Krystie Webb
10:32:24 AM
How is dorm life at WPU? Anything first=years should know?
Loss of thank you Shannon. We had a question from Christy asking about the honest program so if you could talk more about what goes on in the honors program as well as how your experience has been in it.
Jane, you're still muted.
Only done a couple times AMA, so what's nice about the Honors Program? It can sound a little intimidating, but what's nice about it is there is essentially three courses that you have to take, and two of them are actually like replacing other requirements so.
Bex Hyman
10:33:00 AM
Shannon-- would you also mind explaining your role as a RA and what that looks like?
Virginia Shorts
10:33:03 AM
Tabron is my father, I'm Virginia Shorts the actual student
Ryan Killilea
10:33:11 AM
Sorry Virginia
It kind of blends into your normal schedule except for one additional class which is called honors 300. You'll actually end up going to DC for a weekend too, so it's kind of like ads, just an extra extra immersive learning experience and then you have to take for honor's labs and then a capstone course. So how that works is honors honor labs are one credit hours, so you either meet once a week for half this semester, or like every other week.
Ryan Killilea
10:33:32 AM
But yeah reach out to me rckillilea@peace.edu and I can connect you to the coaches
Isaiah Knox
10:33:36 AM
What internship opportunities do you have for Exercise Science majors?
So they're not. You know, it's not like an extra 3 credit hours that you have to add to your schedule. Honors labs usually go hand in hand with the class. You're already taking two, and the goal of them is to kind of like add more context or more substance to a class you're already taking. For example leadership. They have a leadership lab that's actually open any student, but they make it an honors lab for honor students, and you actually go to camp rock fish for a weekend and do all these leadership activities. Leadership on them.
And that kind of stuff. And that we can write their counts as your Honor's requirement. I've really enjoyed it. I don't know if you can get in touch with Heidi Gaylor. She's headed the honors program and she is also been my advisor. She's amazing. I definitely had a great experience in the Honors Program.
Krystie Webb
10:35:00 AM
Can you choose what dorm youre in?
OK, so it's like first year experience wise. It just depends. As of any year. But the people that are on your Hall and also the RA you could probably have a Hall where everybody knows each other and everybody is open with each other and you might have a Hall where people will all sit in the room and relax and be open to having people in their me know it just really depends and varies so far when my freshman experiences sophomore experience combined with at a pretty good time here.
Ryan Killilea
10:35:18 AM
There are a lot of internship opportunities for ESS majors. What are you interested in?
Everything's always been pretty consistent. I mean, all my necessities are covered. Food, water, all those things. So yeah, I feel pretty comfortable honestly.
Ryan Killilea
10:35:38 AM
Yes you can choose what dorm you are in.
I have absolutely loved living on campus, so there is like a couple different areas that are like of course opened 24/7. So like the aux gym and like the volleyball courts and you know we have like a Pacer Commons area to where students can hang out. Kind of whenever they want, so it gives you a lot of opportunity to get out of your room and stuff like that. But with the way that the dorms are set up, you'll essentially be living with potentially like three other people in like what we call a sweet style.
Which, uhm, I'm sure Ryan will probably send out the video that we made showing you what I'm talking about as well, so it's kind of nice because I feel like everyone has their own space. But they could easily get out of that space and get involved on campus. I know Michael can talk about the campus activities board as well. There's kind of always something going on, and if there's nothing going on on campus at that moment were also just steps away from downtown Raleigh. So downtown Raleigh alone has, I think, like 154 restaurants, there's movie theaters, bowling alleys.
Virginia Shorts
10:36:30 AM
I would like that Ryan, I have already sent videos and filled out WPU's prospect application .
Krystie Webb
10:36:37 AM
What are the rules for visitors?
Music venues. There's always like some sort of like free festivals. They do like the local local markets out as well. I'm a big fan of those and it's just like kind of nice because you have your own space. Then you can get out and then explore campus a little bit and then you could go even further. And then you're right into downtown Raleigh, so I think there's kind of like variety of stuff to do, just like on an off campus.
Andrew Macfarlane
10:37:05 AM
Michael - how difficult was it transferring to William Peace from community college?
So actually piggybacking off of what Shannon said, um on campus, there is always something to do. Like Shannon mentioned, I am on the campus activities board. We call it cab for short and that is the programming body on campus. We plan all the events for students, so whenever there is a magician or immediate or a band or any event for students to come and build community as Pacers, the campus activities board.
Plants that, uhm, I believe I mentioned between 20 and 25 events per semester. This past semester we've had.
Ryan Killilea
10:37:50 AM
Ok perfect, Virginia. With you being a 2022, it may be less communication, but I will definitely help out with that
National Magicians who have been on um TV shows that his pen and Teller we've had comedians who have been on Wilin out. We've had a bunch of good acts come to campus, so I always like to say if you're bored and have nothing to do, you should go and check the advertising boards on campus where all registered student organizations advertise on.
Joseph Hester
10:37:51 AM
I'm Joseph, I will be attending the pre law program in the fall, I used to live beside peace before it integrated into a coed school. I went there daily because I had several friends that attended, I came to their graduations, it was awesome, lol. I applied already, gave all my info, did my welcome video, just wanting to know my status
Ryan Killilea
10:38:00 AM
And Andrew, perfect question, I will ask him that!
In addition, if you're more interested in planning events, you can totally get involved in doing that as well, so you can either get involved in the campus activities board, or like Ryan mentioned, if you would like to start a club of your own, you just need five friends. And and on campus advisor and you can get involved in planning events.
Dana Stephens
10:38:22 AM
Andrew- We make transferring from community college easy. We accept up to 90 credit hours if you have a C- or higher.
Awesome, thank you for that. Uh Michael. We just got a question from Andrew. Um, an he's a He's looking at transferring end and I just and you know, as you being a former transfer. I was wondering if you could talk about your experience transferring and. Uh, and I know you already mentioned on how you discovered William peace, but if you can talk about your transition and how it how William Peace help you with that.
Of course, well, thank you for your question. Andrew transferring from Community College to a four year institution. I remember before actually making the switch, it felt like a daunting task and I understand that it feels like a big transition. However, piece gave these so many resources and they set me up to where the transition was seamless so.
Off the bat coming to WP you I had a academic advisor by met with before I was even on campus an she helped me clarify my career goals. What major I wanted to do and she helped set out my class schedule to reach those goals. So full transparency coming into peace. I wasn't completely sure what major I want it to be, so I talked with my advisor and she helped me clarify what I was looking for in a future career and what.

@Ryan Eventually physical therapy
Krystie Webb
10:39:44 AM
Are there laundry rooms and kitchen areas in all of the dorms? Do you have a fridge/microwave in your dorm room?
Bex Hyman
10:39:50 AM
Isaiah-- The Exercise and Sports Science major prepares students for careers as athletic or personal trainers, coaches, teachers, fitness professionals or for graduate study in physical therapy, occupational therapy or other medical fields – for internships you'll be able to work with our Career Design resource to find an opportunity in any of these sectors to begin gaining experience in your career. The Raleigh area has so many opportunities to explore for great internships in the health and fitness world.
Will help me feel fulfilled in my future career. So um, after some debate, I landed on psychology and she helped me get there. So Long story short, the transition from Community College to peace was very easy right when I step on campus. All of my fellow Pacers. They were very welcoming, a little bit taken back by it. How welcoming and kind they were my first day in campus. I sat down in my first class and.
Everyone was just so nice and it felt like a family environment. So um, in short, I know that was a long long story, but the transition from cuny college or just transferring from another institution to peace was very easy and I would recommend it.
Great thank you. Um, we did get a question about internships and someone in the exercise and sport in science major asks a question, but I was wondering if you guys could talk about what internships you've done. Davis, I know you're a sophomore so I don't know if you've exactly gotten any internships, but Michael and Shannon are you guys being seniors? Uhm, you know if you can talk about what internships you guys have done.

Is it difficult or far to get from class to class?
So how come I actually did my internship last semester? I had the opportunity to choose between do two different ones. I had an internship at the American Red Cross and I actually had an internship at the Wellness Center on campus. I chose to do my internship at the University counseling center actually. So last semester I was involved in creating an on campus.
Ryan Killilea
10:41:38 AM
Not at all Krystie. All of the classes take place generally between two buildings.
Resource booklet that was sent out to all the faculty and staff and a um involved in creating the Pacer Pantry, which is a resource college students.
Having that internship requirement at peace is very nice because as doctor born said.

And yes every dorm has laundry and the laundry is free
You can learn a whole lot by actually doing and applying the skills machine learning the classroom, so it was really nice being able to be further plugged into the campus via being a Internet.
Emma Hodges
10:42:14 AM
Can you have a car on campus?
My experience was actually with Enterprise Rent-a-car. It was really cool. It was a summer internship, so I actually got a lot more hours than like the UM hours that are required. But what was cool about it is I really don't know what I want to do. Still just know something kind of in business. So with enterprise I got to do like marketing. I got to do sales. I got to do business development like I got to do.
Krystie Webb
10:42:34 AM
Okay, thank you! Are internships required? Sorry I'm firing out so many questions
Michael McHale
10:42:49 AM
Emma, You can have a car!
All different kinds of stuff even got to do like some HR work. Um, and I actually found my internship through the job fairs that the career design center hosted on campus. There was one. We go to the I think it's like E an NCA career fair that's held it state every year and then they have one hosted on campus. and I actually met the recruiter through that and ended up getting that internship. I will say my roommate is a sport and fitness studies.

Yes-- internships are a graduation requirement at WPU!

Hi Joseph- I am your personal admissions counselor and I can assist you offline. I will send you an email with some information and we can set up a 1:1 virtual meeting
Major she is also going to be graduating with me in May. She was actually like she interned at Cardinal Gibbons High School and she was a dumb assistant trainer. She was an assistant fitness trainer so she hosted workouts with the group. She liked it, all kinds of stuff she actually helped like design like their workout room like they rearranged all the furniture and like she actually part of like one of her projects was to like try to fit in. They had like more stuff coming and they had nowhere to put it so she had to like.
Kind of fit the room like a puzzle, an uhm. She had a couple different like semester long projects and they actually, uhm, they offered for her to work there for the year instead of one semester because they liked her so much.
Isaiah Knox
10:43:57 AM
Wow. Nice. Thank you!
Michael, I know you. You talked a little bit about the Pacer Pantry. Can you kind of go more into that? I know that just started this year, but I feel like it's been a big hit for our for our for our college.
Well, as you can tell, apiece were all about supporting students, and the Pacer Pantry is just another resource to do that so.
It is. It's ran through the Wellness Center UM, and if you, uh, would like assistance with that, you can sign up and you can actually get a bundle of food for you to pick up so you can get anything from hygiene products to personal care products to canned food and other snacks and stuff like that. So it's just a supplemental resource to help students with food and stuff.
Don't go on, Michael looks like.
I should mention that is a resource that is free and open to all students. Whether or not you are residential. So we do have some SPS, an nontraditional students who use it, and students who live on purpose as well.
Great, thank you, I really like that. Didn't realize it was you that helped started, but it is really an awesome program. I think you know, as I said, every everyone from the people in the Wellness Center to all the faculty and staff really appreciate that. And I'm sure the students do as well.
Krystie Webb
10:45:32 AM
How long are most classes? Are they early or in the afternoon? Do they tend to be back to back?
Isaiah Knox
10:45:34 AM
What are the food options on campus? Are there shuttles to the local restaurants in raleigh?
Great, I'm you know, going back off of that something. I just thought of uhm and I hate to keep peppering you with questions Michael uh but you did mention the Wellness Center so I was wondering if you could kind of talk a little bit about the Wellness Center Ann about different aspects of that.
An and sorry to interrupt you an if David Nister Shannon if you guys can add any other thing about it, feel free to do it.
So the Wellness Center is our Health Center on campus. So how's within it is the counseling center.
Ever since, and as I said, health services. So that is a free service for all residential students. If you are a commuter student, you do have to pay a small one time fee and it is free for the rest of the semester. So let's say you fallen skin your knee or you come down with the flu, or you get some other illness. We have doctor two nurses, an three mental health counselors on staff through the Wellness Center so they can help you out.
Krystie Webb
10:46:28 AM
^are there meal plans?
Merica Ivey ‘16
10:46:29 AM
Hi Krystie. M, W, F classes are typically 50 minutes and T, TH classes are typically 75 minutes.
So for example, last semester I became ill with off and this was not feeling too well. So after class one day I went over to the Wellness Center. They they gave me some medicine. They told me to go home rest and I was feeling better. Within the next few days. Another thing is I mentioned the counseling center is housed within winter house as well so.
They are there to help you with a well there there the help support you through college so they can help you with anything pertaining to mental health. So anything.

Also, you can plan your schedule with your Academic Advisor, so you have the option to put your classes back-to-back, or spread them out if you'd like.
Tom sickness to being stressed out to more advanced things such as anxiety and depression, so that is a free resource on campus to all students. So it is a fantastic thing to keep in mind.
One thing I'll add to is, uh, I know a lot of my out-of-state friends like it was like, oh like I need to find like a doctors office, you know? Like what if I get sick then? Like where will I go? But it was really great, like when you sign up like once you register and that kind of thing part of it is you have to add your health insurance information and like that kind of stuff. So then they already have like all of your information on file, you don't have to go through the stress of like filling out paperwork and then like finding a trustworthy doctor or something like that.
That you can literally just walk over to the welcome center and then they'll.
Also, thankfully we have a pharmacy at something like a minute walk from campus so you can go straight from the Wellness Center over the pharmacy and get what you need. So Super Convenient.
Joseph Hester

Being located in downtown Raleigh you have the BEST food options just steps away in downtown Raleigh-- a quick walk, drive, uber, or scooter and you can access pretty much any type of food you want. We also have amazing food on campus and I linked the dining hall website above!
Isaiah asked about, you know, the food options on campus and kind of getting around um downtown Raleigh for food options. and I know the last time I saw you on campus, you were so focused on getting well with peace China.
Just wondering if you can kind of talk a little bit about the food options on campus, but also the food options around campus. Me personally bad daddys his number is number one for near Watt nearby but you know if you can kind of go into that.
Of course, so the food options on campus you have the main cafeteria which serves basic vegetarian options. We have like Taco Tuesday, fried chicken Wednesdays, also traditional things as well. Some days we have like Oh, we're eating Pacific Islander food today. You know, it changes and we always like variety.
We also have some Dallas which is right above the cafeteria. That's more related options like flatbread style, quesadillas, paninis, things on those lines and then we have peace park which is on the near the library and that has more of your grab and go style. Your Starbucks drinks and things in those lines. But around you is my favorite part. We have something called the station. We have peace China Bad Daddys Night Kitchen. Everything is around you basically in walking distance so you don't even necessarily to shuttle at all. We do have a bus that goes around. It's called the airline and just.
Completely free, so you can use that to go downtown. We also have Citrix bikes which are little bikes that you can run out. You can go down to downtown as well and I think we still have the scooters. I'm not for sure those are in and out sometimes, but we have scooters that you can use to go downtown as well. So a lot of options.
I read once everybody's favorite off campus food option.
I have to say that station.
Must I love Houston? Has to be the station.
I love everything food so like that's really hard for me. I would also say the station it with like proximity, but the pharmacy is also like incredible downtown in general. I'm a big fan of Raleigh Times. They have like that rooftop area and some really good salads. but I can't choose between those three. You're just going to have to take 3 answers.
I forgot that mojo's great.
I forgot about my destiny.
You're sleeping on Bunk Museal C'mon?
I'm I'm kind of in the same boat. I have a tie for a 3 way tie between Cafe Carolina Mojos and Beasley's chicken and Waffles.
I was wondering if someone could talk about go worn to the dorm selections, uhm, and kind of talked about the laundry. I know it's free, but you know the free space is if someone can talk about it. Shannon, since you're in our a uh, if you could kind of go into that.
Bex Hyman
10:51:11 AM
Krystie-- we have "the pharmacy" a block away to fill all prescription medication
Um, so for first year students there's three options. Ross, Davidson, and Finley. They're all about the same size in regards to the rooms, and they're all what we call sweet style. So there will be two people in a room, a bathroom, and then two people in another room, and then that will be like closed off to the hole so we don't have any like communal Hall bathroom styles for any of the first year students. It'll just be like.
All those like private style bathrooms, which is nice.
Krystie Webb
10:51:52 AM
Am I allowed to keep my medication in my room?
Ryan Killilea
10:52:09 AM
Yes you can
And they're all about the same size there, all set up the same way. The layouts are just a little different, like for example, Ross has one lounge on the 1st floor when Finley has smaller lounges on each floor, and with that laundry is also a little bit different in each storm. So safe in Lee has a couple of machines throughout the building and then in Ross there's an open 24 hour completely free. There's washing machines and dryers in the basement of Ross, so like I said you can go there anytime and just like use it Unlimited Lee.
You won't have to pay, uhm, I believe how they're doing, um, you can choose, like which dorm you want, like you put like your number of preferences, uhm. And then you can also request who you room with and who your suite mates are as well.
Ansley Hicks
10:52:33 AM
Joseph- We can discuss everything after the presentation.
Emma Hodges
10:53:01 AM
Do athletes have to room with other athletes?
Joseph Hester
10:53:02 AM
awesome, thanks Ansley
And then for upperclassmen, it also looks a little different, so there's three options for upper classmen on campus. That's Bingham, Fraser and main. Main is the one that we have with like the communal bathrooms where it's one bathroom on them, like a Hall of rooms. However, if you don't want to do that, I know I really didn't want to. There's two other options for on campus. The last option I'll mention is for upperclassmen. That's a village, green apartments. That's where I live, and it's about an 8 minute drive from campus.
Uhm, but that's where you'll have, um, it'll be an apartment of three rooms with three bathrooms and then a common area with like a living room and kitchen that everyone shares. And then there's also individual laundry units and nodes.
Ryan Killilea
10:53:18 AM
Most coaches like to have that happen, but it is still up to you
So it's kind of just based on like what kind of style you want for yourself, and you know every room has its like pros and cons. So when you get that housing application you'll have the option to kind of go through exactly like what you want and hopefully will get like the doormat you referenced.
OK, awesome um. I was wondering if a Davis if you could kind of touch on some of sincere.
Merica Ivey ‘16
10:53:53 AM
Hi Emma! I would chat with your coach to see what their preference is. I was an athlete at WPU and I always suggest rooming with an athlete of a different sport so they understand the demands of your schedule.
Since you're closer to that point, then Shannon and Michael are. But what were some of the, uh, some of the resources that were available to you as you transition from high school to William Peace University?
Um, we had these, uh, these fares that happen every beginning of the area speak properly beginning of the year is usually a fair that's there, and it shows you all the on campus, basically organizations. They also have outside. We're going to places that come to and show you around as well, and that was just a really big like. OK, this is all the resources that I have. I went to the work study table which we have a work study program here and that was great. And that's where I got my first job on campus.
Uh, and then that led me into the missions, ambassador job and the mission. Some ******* like get all kind of like.
Just being involved in general is just a very.
I just love it. I mean, it just keeps your mind occupied. It allows you to grow and blossom on campus an through these positions. These resources have allowed me to not only get money which is pretty important, but also grow as a human being. Interact with people more overall and just make my experience on Cape is better.
Isaiah Knox
10:55:27 AM
What is night life like around campus? curfews? shopping close by?
How have your professors, um, helped you in succeeding? I know you know, we mentioned that 13 to one student faculty ratio, and if you guys can all kind of touch on that, maybe Michael you start 1st and we'll kind of go around and but I think that's such a great part. Obviously I had my iPad interactions with a lot of professors, but you guys have had a lot more, so if you guys can kind of talk about that and Michael if you want to kick it off.
OK, so that's actually one of my favorite parts about campus is the personal connection that you can get with your professors like Ryan spoke about earlier speaking about letters of recommendation and stuff like that. At least you will really get to know your professors and they'll really get to know you. So those letters of rec will be personalized. For example, last semester I being a psychology major, I had a class with eight people, and then another class with two people.
Um the eight person class was actually a class called counseling theories where we were able to do therapy three times a week as Undergrads, which was absolutely mind blowing.
And the two person class was, uh, my senior thesis class. So that was intentionally smaller. You will get to know all of your classmates on a really personal level, because you may be living with them. But if not in the classroom environment, you really get to know them and your professors will really get to know you. And it's really nice getting being able to connect with your professors on a personal level and that way you have that personal connection with people in your intended.
Yeah, um I originally met, uhm, my professor or my advisor. I mean, through the Honors Program. And so I really didn't know what I wanted to do when I first got there, and I still really don't. But that's OK. I started taking with our little requirements. We can kind of take like a big.
Ryan Killilea
10:57:36 AM
I will ask that for you Isaiah
Variety of classes. So I started taking like I even took like a theater class I took like a criminal justice which was one of them. I just took like history classes at random like a bunch of different stuff and then my advisor was like hey like, what have you like just sit back and like reflect like what can we pull from to get you where you want to be? And then I was like, oh these like leadership classes are like really cool. This like behavioral organization stuff like I love it.
And she's like Oh well then, like let's let's get you going like let's see if you like this even more and then eventually I ended up in my business major with a concentration in leadership and management. and I absolutely loved it and like Yes about what Michael said about knowing your professor, like for example Doctor Heidi. Actually like two months ago invited the honors program to her house. Like to have, like s'mores and dinner together. And it's like now, that's like we realize, like how close we've gotten like.
Specially 'cause it was mostly seniors and I was like wow, we've gotten so close and now, especially like with school being all online. It's like I always have that little like memory.
And also just to pull from an example from smaller classes. So like because classes can sometimes like especially the more major specific they are, the smaller they're going to get. So I've had a minor in communications and I focused on PR and one of my higher level public relation classes we had. I think it was me and maybe six other students, and because we had that little group of students we actually partnered with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. I don't know if you guys are familiar with the movie theater, but we actually. They opened in April when we started that class.
Merica Ivey ‘16
10:59:23 AM
Hi Isaiah! This is a great question. In many ways your experience both on and off campus will be what you make of it. I always encourage getting involved both with your WPU community and the Raleigh community we are so lucky to call home. There are tons of nightlife options available in downtown spanning from concerts, to festivals, shopping and much more.
In January, so we spent January to April, like those four months doing real PR work, we hosted events. We got to go to their events. We did like press releases and all that kind of stuff, so it was really cool. Not only did I build like a portfolio and have that experience to pull from, but it was just it went so smoothly because we only like we were only able to do that because we had like kind of strength and loan numbers.
Isaiah Knox
10:59:59 AM
Thanks. Shannon mentioned a gym that was open late. Is that 24hrs and is it a weight room too?
Bex Hyman
11:00:01 AM
Krystie-- as for medication in your room: yes but we ask that they keep it stored and locked away so only you have access to it. Feel free to contact us individually for any specific questions in regards to this :)
And also the professors here they listen to you and I think that super important. I just got an email yesterday from my profession is Matt Hodge asking about music I made for a play and he just wants to know how everything is going with that an I mean that brightened up my day knowing that this person is listening to me and is aware of what I'm trying to do. The same person who got me into the school is the same person who's keeping track and making sure like OK, I hope everything is going well with you. If you have anything to help you out and they do go out there, wait for you like I've been able to perform at the man in concert series because of my professors who put a kind word in for me.
Doctor Melina's, another good professor who's going out of their way. There's just so many of 'em that you can just name that are going out of their way for you to make sure that you get good recommendation letters that they can check over things for you. Overall, just fresh is listening. That's super important.
Great thank you guys for talking bout that. Uhm I was wondering I don't know who want to take this but if you could kind of talk a little bit about the nightlife around campus in kind of around the area. Um, Isaiah asked about that and he also asked. Some colleges have curfews and he asked about shopping around campus. So lot of stuff. But basically you know the nightlife, the curfews, the shopping, different options.
Krystie Webb
11:01:11 AM
Okay, thank you Bex
So in the dorms we have like Visitation hours, so, um, there's no visitors past 11:00 o'clock on the week days and then 2:00 AM on the weekends. And that's for like just on campus housing. However, that doesn't mean that you guys can all hang out like in one of those 24 hour spots at.
I mentioned so, um, we do have just to answer eyes as question real quick. We do have two different fitness areas on campus. One is going to be our 24 hour fitness room. That's open 24/7. There's cardio machines. There's weights in there. All that kind of stuff that I don't know how to use an. Then there's also are Pacer Performance Center, which has like a number of set hours so that has more like your heavy lifting stuff. And the reason why we have only out like only daily hours for it is just because someone needs to be in the room at all times just to make sure everyone.
Safe, uhm, but it is open for all students. You don't need to be an athlete to go in there. Um, it's open for all students and then also with our fitness room. We also have the oxygen that's open 24/7. That's like where pickup basketball games happen. I know people play like soccer in there and stuff like that too. We have spiteful and whatnot. You can set up in there as well.
Uhm, and then so there's really no like curfew. You don't need to be back in your dorm by 2:00 AM. Uhm, you know, of course, like you're very trusted to do whatever you want. Shopping around campus were actually about 5 minutes from Cameron village as well. And that is where like grocery stores are. There's a bunch like a bunch, like too much to shop at in there. There's also like that's where it's another shopping center. You'll find a bunch of restaurants and stuff like that close by.
And we will be having the new Publix open up um soon. I'm not sure when that will open up, but that's waht 3 minute walk if that much.
If not, yeah, I forgot about that, yeah?
And on top of that, Crabtree Valley Mall is not very far away and you know you.
North Hills and I think there's one that I'm forgetting about right now, but.
Krystie Webb
11:03:05 AM
Are outside visitors allowed in your room?
Isaiah Knox
11:03:05 AM
ok, thanks
I got another question about housing about outside visitors being allowed in the room, Davis. If you want to talk about that being in being an RA.
Yeah, so many outside visitors are guest forms that you fill out if they're staying the night. If they're just they're doing Visitation hours, they can be in and out. It's more of just be aware that you're responsible for what your guests does, so if your guests knocks down exit sign, you're going to be facing the repercussions for that. So just be aware of those things, but pretty much you can just have been around to be respectful would be courteous.
And like with visitors like we encourage, you know like I've been in Ari for three years, I would love when like people would bring their friends into the halls like and like show them kind of like what's up. As long as you don't, you know, like.
Crazy break the rules. A muno visitors are of course welcome.
Faith Resto
11:04:14 AM
What are the rules for dorms, like appliances?
Krystie Webb
11:04:15 AM
Are males allowed in females rooms?
OK, um, well, I'll ask. Uh, see if we have any anymore questions from the uh, oh.
Gotta couple couple more questions about about dorm life, um.
I'll go ahead and answer the appliance one uhm, so we're not, uh, we don't admit microwaves in the dorm rooms. However, there is a kitchen on each floor for on campus residence. So like if you have, like if you need a microwave or a stove or something like that, it is like accessible, but you can't have like a hot plate or a microwave in your room. Are toasters allowed in the rooms? Did we change that recently?
I don't think anything that conducts heat like freely is allowed. I candles nothing.
Never mind, but you can always put one in the kitchen.
Yeah, usually have ones in the kitchen is for you.
And that's and that's understandable not wanting to to burn stuff back yet, so.
Yeah, many fridges are allowed, though you're allowed one mini fridge per person. It has to be a super like cubic size, but you'll get all of those regulations and stuff like that when you sign up for housing will make sure you have all your information of the like like do's and don'ts of moving in.
And then Shannon if you want to address the final question as well.
Yeah, I mean people are able to go in um each others rooms like as they please. Doesn't matter. Like if you're a guy, go into a girls floor vice versa. Like as long as you don't break the overall visitor rules, it doesn't really matter.
And a lot of these visitor rules they can be. They'll be found in the student Handbook, so you know, I know some of the some of the questions are about what the exact rules are, there's.
I know it might seem like there's a lot of rules, but a lot of them are just common sense. am I correct on that?
It also like kind of different for each floor a little bit, because like once you kind of get established in your floor, they happen so naturally like you really don't like. As long as you're not like being really loud during like late at night. Like common sense things like that. And like once you get to know like your RA and the people on your haul it like that does kind of flow naturally. So like I don't want anyone to be like worried about, you know there's too many rules are there so many rules because and also we have about the same as like.
Any other campus would, if not less, because we're a much smaller community.
Michael, this I've always are you a commuter student? Uhm, if could you talk? You know we've gotten so many questions about living on campus, but could you talk about, uhm, how it's been for you as a commuter student? What you might do in between classes as a community student, just in case we have any community students out there?
So one fantastic thing about being a computer at pieces. Pieces are very commuter friendly school.
Krystie Webb
11:07:27 AM
Do you have to buy your own mini fridge?
Isaiah Knox
11:07:27 AM
Coed dorms?
Isaiah Knox
11:07:28 AM
By floor?
Now there are a few recommendations that I have and this is for any commuter college student number one. You should try and get involved on campus as much as possible. So find organizations or jobs or different leadership positions that interest you and really dive deep into them. That is one thing that I made sure to do, and it has made my time at peace.
Allow me to have a whole breath of experience is number 2. Um, don't just come to campus for classes. Some of my friends and some of my supervisors on campus Ryan for example. They don't know I'm a computer 'cause I'm on campus all the time, so don't just leave after classes. You can go to the library and you can go hang out with your friends.
At the The UM Sandella Zorin Belt cafeteria you can find stuff to do.
And finally talked to people in your classes, especially at peace, were all friendly. Um, really everyone is willing to talk to you and have a nice conversation and become your friend. So those are my three main recommendations overall and one last one. If you want to. There are plenty of jobs on campus such as admissions in master or work study jobs that she can get involved in and it really helps you become connected to the campuses.
And you can have a very, uh, very similar college experience to a residential student. It does take a little bit more extra effort, but it is possible.
Great thanks Michael. Um, a couple more questions about about the about the dorms. Uhm, asking our dorms Coed, is it by floor? Uhm and then also asking about about the mini fridge is how do we get outta students get those mini fridges?
Margaret Vaughn
11:09:31 AM
Here's some more specific info about residence halls at WPU: https://www.peace.edu/student-life/housing-dining/residential-life/
So when it comes to the Coed polisy, Ross specifically is only one that's where it's Coed, and an third floor and 2nd. And that's basically by sweet. So be girl girl, boy, boy all the other ones are typically all boys of one floor an all girls on one floor an with the mini fridge. Why I'm not for sure like understand like the question like.
I think they're just asking if they would have to provide their own mini fridge.
Ah, so yeah, you would have to get your own mini fridge. Sadly, as much as that sounds really nice to get one, but yeah, you have to provide it for yourself.
Krystie Webb
11:10:09 AM
Is it easy to find/get paired with a roommate?
I got mine personally ship to the school so it works for me.
OK, Great, I think we lost Shannon, Uh.
Um Davis, can you talk a little bit about um, made it about orientation? I guess Christie was asking about how you get paired with or find a roommate. and I know we always talk about orientation being great place for that. So could you talk a little bit about that?
SCS orientation is a fantastic spot to find your roommate. That's where I found mine for freshman year. Pretty much usually a lot of oils. What they'll do is they'll pair you with or like find what people are like in your major or in your interests and you'll get all be put together and you can kind of talk and converse. So you usually go find somebody that will be like, OK, I don't. Let's try this out with be roommates. And if you happen not to be able to find a roommate orientation, housing will send you a survey which will just ask you just personal house things like do you clean your room often? How late do you stay up?
So they they can find someone in pair you up with someone who matches that because you don't want to be an early bird with someone who stays up to two o'clock in the morning, so will find someone for you.
Great and you said oh else, what can you explain what that is to a much more.
Yes, oh, oh L is an orientation leader be basically that's another job on camps that you can do. They are there for the orientation season an. You get to learn more about leadership positions and communication and just team building within the other. Oil orientation leader groups. So yeah, it's pretty nice actually. I'm excited. I hope you do it.
Yeah, one of my like when I was a freshman and went to first year orientation. Two of my orientation leaders are actually like my best friends now. So like orientation I actually just the other day someone was like um, what are your three top memories? An I was like first year orientation for share like orientation leaders like. Not only are they there for orientation, but you have them as like a resource like the entire time. You're at peace because like they're just so like their job. They are hired to.
Just like kind of really liked a people like not under their wing, but just like show, opportunity and like kind of extend themselves and like parts of peace.
So it's a very nostalgic feeling orientation. Let me think back about it, nice.
Alright, well I'm gonna see if we have anymore questions.
I'll send it out there for for a last question or so, see if we have any more coming in.
Thank you guys for all of your questions. I've really enjoyed answering them. I hope this was really helpful.

I know you brought it up the other day, so if you could kind of go into that an and let the students who are on this.

Follow @wpeaceu on instagram as well!
Yeah, so, uh Amy is basically just a social media platform that is centered around campus life and different universities have their own accounts an attached to those accounts are current students at the University.
So, uh, if you see me, you can get a more personal view of what campus is like. So for example, a few months ago, being one of my friends who is also fell in Master Emily when you posted a few updates on different organizations involved, and I know I've seen many day in the life blogs on there.
And I really wish I had it when I was looking at universities because it allows you to get that personal connection input from current students. And that's honestly invaluable.

My name is Sophia Swenson. My question is How does grading work? How do you get graded per class?
Krystie Webb
11:14:40 AM
Any tips for first-years? Thank you guys!
I don't have Instagram, I just put it in the chat WP few that's like our universities Instagram, and although we're not on campus, content won't quite be the same this next couple weeks. But we're definitely still going to be posting stuff and all that.
Alright, well we got um gotta couple lasts.
Couple of last questions. Uhm, so will take these these last two from Sofia Anna Christie and then and then, we'll, uh, we'll go on from there. Um, Sofia asked, I was grading work and you know, and how do you get greater per class which I feel like that's a if everyone can kind of talk about it because you guys have such different classes. Obviously Davis is in musical Theatre classes in acting classes, which might be completely different than a research based psychology class. So if you guys can.
So we're on it. Sorry you got it.
Yeah, sure you got it. It's all good now you got it.
All right, uhm, were on like a 10 point grading scale. So um, in a is 9200 abias 80 to 90 acedia 70 to 80 D 60 to 70, and then anything lower than 60 would be failing? Um, that's pretty. That's pretty consistent. Like across the board. And then yeah, it kind of just depends on your classes. I feel like most of the classes that I've been in. That's how it is. It's like you get a letter based on your number. However, some of like the labs and stuff like that can be like.
Either pass or fail. So like you either.
Pass the class or you don't, and that's like there's just several different factors that go into that, but for the most part I feel like it's been.
The 10 point grading scale.
For me personally, in my classes I'm a musical theater major, so very rated. Based on like honestly, with are acting and vocal technique. Things on those lines. So yeah, it just really depends on your classes and on the professors as well and how they decide. There's some classes where class participation tests are pretty much would make up all the assignments and there's somewhere there's a lot of in between things, discussions and things on those lines, so yeah.
Ryan mentioned research based psychology classes, so for those I'm actually in a research class right now. You have a set number of hours of research that you have to do per semester. So right now I have to do 105 hours of research this semester and were graded on the number of hours that we complete, which to get the full credit you need to complete 105 and were graded on the quality of work we do so.
You have small assignments such as article reviews. You have to input data and analyze data so it's differentiated between different classes, but that's typically how the research classes around.
OK, awesome um I'm gonna ask the final question of of today. Um, this ones come from Christy Anne and I do thank everyone. All of our guests and I'll wrap this up after. But there will be a lot of opportunity for you guys to connect with other students and will talk about this after I let you guys go. But this is to all of you.
What advice would you give to for your first year on campus? Uhm, I I know a lot of you guys have kind of you. Three of all hit on these topics, but if you could, what would be your biggest pieces of advice for first years?
Get involved, I think like because we are such a small community. Involvement goes such a long way and I don't want anyone to take this as like, oh that means I need to go out and talk to everybody or like oh that like I, I'm not like extroverted enough to get involved. It's totally not like that. We have so many organizations so many like events like even just attending events and like little things like that. That range from such a.
Like variety of experience, like one of my favorite things to do is like we have like our belt patio. It's kind of like our main courtyard is like there will be like events set up like with just like tables and like that you just like pass through. Maybe grab like they're giving out food or like swag or something like that. And just like stopping by and just even like talking to whoever's at the table or just like kind of just getting out there and like experiencing what piece has to offer. That's really, I think the number one tip.
That I would give a first year.
The number one tip I would give is embrace every single opportunity you have. Your four years of undergrad will be a time that you'll be able to experience a lot of new things. A lot of opportunities that will push you as a person as a leader and push you in any hobbies or interests that you have.
Uh, turn away from those opportunities, lean into them, pursue them with all of your might, and I promise you it will be worth while at the end of it.
My number one tip is being open minded 'cause it's super important that you're just open to the new ideas of the college world. Completely different high school I thought I was prepared but I was not because there's just this is such a new experience that you know can truly blossom you as a character in general and that connects into getting involved too. Is that open minus is.
Being on campus an trying to file fill out those applications for leadership positions and trying to do things on campus is super important. It will amplify your experience by like 100 times.
And also I think trust yourself like trust that it'll workout. Like you know you've got the whole peace community behind Yuan like you've got all of these resources like even in times of doubt or like when it seems really hard. Just like trust at all. It'll be great. It'll be great. It's a great day to be a pacer.
And and also realize it is OK to ask for help, you, Rory, your peer mentor. You're OL, your professors, the counseling center. Everyone on campus is there to support you and help you, and there's no shame in asking for help. I know many times through my time at fees, I've gone to my professor's, gone to my friends and just tell them what's going on or ask for help with assignments. So there is no shame in doing that and I would.
Recommend doing it because it would make your experience that much.
Alright, well um, thank you all so much for your questions. A man. Davis Michael Shannon. Thank you guys so much for joining us this Saturday and really help give a good view of what life at William Peace is like for student.
Well thank you guys so much for like Cunanan, Yeah.
So I'm going to rap rap today up. Uhm, I have a a list of important links. Um, obviously you can't click him through this, but if you'd like to take a picture, uhm, they will also be sent out to come to you through an email later on. Peace.edu is a great place to discover more about William peace and if we didn't answer some of your questions, you can find answers on peace.edu. We also have our peace.edu/admissions.
Um dashade. So it's the admissions page. Uhm, so if you have any questions for an admissions counselor or you'd like to schedule an appointment to talk with it in admissions counselor, you can do that through here. You'll notice the map of North Carolina.
I got different shades and that's a way to see who your missions counselor is. So if you do have questions on after you would, that's who would be able to go to umwevegotgopispatient.com. That's the athletics page. So if you are interested in athletics highly highly, to reach out to A.
If you're a junior or senior, definitely do it right now. If you're a sophomore or freshman, do it right now as well. I will say our coaches might not respond to you right away, um, especially, but they are very responsive, so they'll get back to it. Might take a little bit more time, especially as we get our current.
So it might take some more time to adjust, but they'll definitely get back.
